The first marriage licenses have been issued to gay couples in the Houston area since June.
Now it looks like the same thing is happening in Texas.
ABC News reports that in a move that will shock some Texans, the state has issued same-sex marriage licenses to couples in six different counties.
In a statement released by the Texas Department of State Health Services, the agency said the issuance of licenses “is consistent with our commitment to fairness, equality and inclusion.”
The statement continued, “Texas is a nation of laws and we will continue to enforce our laws as they pertain to marriage.”
There were reports that the new licenses were being issued without any background checks.
